Iam looking for ancestors of my Cartnal family tracing back to a Jacob Cartnal (Cartmel/Cartnail/Cartmill) born in Maryland in 1773 married to Eleanor Brookover. The connection seems probable, but have not had much of an opportunity to dig deep on this line. Since he was born in Maryland, and no other Cartnals are found in Maryland, there seems to be a chance of a connection. Notes say the county he was living in was Frederick County.
