Has anyone ever verified or disproved the first wife of Nathaniel Cartmell, born 1753, the son of Nathaniel and Sarah (Russell) Cartmell. His grandson, T. K. Cartmell, wrote in SHENANDOAH VALLEY PIONEERS, that Nathaniel Cartmell's first wife was Elizabeth Froman whom he married in 1775 by whom he had no children and who died about 1789. This Elizabeth Froman was born in 1738 so would have been 15 years OLDER that her husband! Of course, that would perhaps explain the fact they had no children. Then, Nathaniel remarried in 1807 to Sarah Bean, born 1781 (therefore 27 years YOUNGER than her husband) and they had several children. The other problem with Nathaniel Cartmell marrying Elizabeth Froman is that her father had left Frederick Co before 1768 moving to SW Pennsylvania so one would assume Elizabeth went with her parents to Pa well before the alleged marriage to Nathaniel Cartmell circa 1775. All very puzzling. I would discount this whole idea completely, except one would think he might know his own grandfather's first wife, even if he descended from the second wife?
