I have the following info on Cartmill (Cartmell) passed on to me from my grandmother
Mary Virginia (CARTMILL) Borgstadt:
Virginia W. (Cartmill) Hubbard, was the sister of John B. Cartmill (my great-great...gand
father), and she was the eldest daughter & 1st born of HENRY & ISABELL CARTMILL
Virginia was born in Botetourt Co., VA in 1799 based on the census of 1880 where she
claimed to be 81 yrs. old. She married Stephen Hubbard and had 10 children: Here's
what I have on the children:
1. John Austin Hubbard married his 1st cousin, FRANCES CARTMILL.
2. William Henry Hubbard was killed in the Confederate Army @ Droop Mountain.
3. David Charles Hubbard married LOUISE A. ELLIS (many descendants in Indiana)
4. Sarah Ann Hubbard married JOHN ALBERT HARMON & remainded in W. Va.
5. Andrew W. Hubbard married ALSINDA MARTIN & moved to California
6. Mary G. Hubbard married BENJAMIN SHUMAKER & WILLIAM MAXWELL
(She had 5 children --4 by Shumaker, 1 by Maxwell)
7. Louise E. Hubbard married JOHN ENSMINGER. Moved to Shelby Co., Ind. (Had
6 children)
8. Stephen Thomas Hubbard died of measles while in Confederate Army & was
considered quite an orator & debator.
9. Frances W. married SYLVESTER BALLARD & ALLEN GOSSETT. Moved to
Shelby Co., Ind. as well
10. America Matilda Hubbard married NEWAL ADDISON ELLIS. Also lived in Shelby.

4. FRANCES ISABELL (CARTMILL) HILDRES or CHILDRES [1859-1946] Daughter
of JAMES HENRY CARTMILL, SR.
5. IDA LEE (CARTMILL) MCDANIELS [1864-1946]
6. GEORGE WASHINGTON CARTMILL [1856-1930]
7. JOSEPHUS FLAVIOUS CARTMILL [1849-1928] , 6th child of JAMES HENRY CARTMILL, SR.
8. ELLEN (LOCKHART) CARTMILL [Josephus' Wife?? They are in same photo]
Captain John B. Cartmill served in the Revolutionary War from the Virginia Area. Possibly Augusta County, where records show a Captain Cartmill, and John Cartmill, John Cartmill, Jr. and Thomas Cartmill was promoted to Ensign on November 20, 1781 and assigned to
Capt. Poage's Company.
My Great Grandfather was JOHN CABOT CARTMILL. He had 3 children with
MARY JANE "MOLLIE" (MACINTOSH) CARTMILL. They were: MARY VIRGINIA,
(married HUBERT EDMUND BORGSTADT--2 children: Gareld (6 kids) & Mary Connie
Sue (4 kids w/GARY FREDERICK ROTH--My Parents)
JOHN, & LIVENIA MARCENA (married RICHARD BLACKMAN - 2 kids - Ricena
(married DEAN LIPE) and Marcia (married BRONKO LJUBEVIC?(SP?)
