If you are looking for info on the Fredrick County Cartmells, than you should find the book "Shenandoah Valley Pioneers and Their Decendants" by T.K. Cartmell. This has information on the first Cartmells to this area, Nathaniel also.

T.K. Cartmell was Fredrick County Clerk for 28 years. He was born in 1838 and I believe was g-gson of Nathaniel. He also served on Stonewall Jacksons staff during first Valley Campaign of Civil War.
