I just found out that my grandfather Edward Joseph ROSS, born in 1846 & his first wife Unk. Cartier, born abt.1850 did not divorce. She died in childbirth abt.1872. Their son, who may have been named Edward also, died at the age of thirty (abt. 1902. Unk. Cartier's parents may have had a sawmill in Canada & they may have been related to the Cartier Jewelers. I believe my grandfather & Unk. Cartier were married in Canada abt. 1870.
