I don't think Jane Carter who appears on the 1860 Census in Amelia County would be the widow of the William Carter, d. 1851 in Bedford co., VA as she was not listed in his will which was written in 1847
I have no idea if the Following William Carter is my line
"Powhatan County, Virginia. Nov. 24, 1798; William Carter & Jane Scott."but the following children are from my William CARTER:

daughter Lucy Perkins, Elizabeth, children of daughter Sarah Bass, deceased, daughter Julia Ann Harris, to son William P. Carter, my negro girl Martha and my negro boy Fletcher, son James M. Carter.
