I have seen the posting that you attched in your response; however, the postings do not give reference to where Charles Carter is listed as a son of John Carter of Henrico d.1785. There is no Charles listed in the will of this John Carter.
Further, where might it prove that the John Carter who married Mourning Bond is the son of this same John of Henrico?
Believe me, I would like to think that Charles is the son of John of Henrico. In Chesterfield County, there lived a William Carter. He was indeed the son of John of Henrico (named in John's will). William was named as a son of John of Henrico in the newspaper announcing William's marriage to Sarah Ellyson in 1771. William was still living in Chesterfield County in 1789, when involved in litigation with Sarah's "step children" (the illegitimate children of her husband Gerard Ellyson and Frances Moody). I am awaiting receipt of the Administrator's Bond, Inventory, and Executor's Account of William's estate (date of which unknown to me now) from the Chesterfield Courthouse in the hopes of learning more about him.
At the same time, living in Chesterfield County was Charles Carter. His Revolutionary War pension states that he was from Essex County, VA, but not having seen the original, I would like to set that one fact aside for the time being, as it is the only indication of Essex origins. It may be simply where he enlisted. Charles had among his children, sons named William and Armstead (born 1793).
In 1795, an Armstead Carter made his will, in which he mentions a wife Elizabeth and a brother Robert Carter. Robert is living on land in "Cammell" (probably Campbell) County that belonged to Armstead. Some have thought that this means that Armstead comes from Campbell County, but all it says is that he owned land there. It seems likely that this Armstead Carter is connected to Charles Carter, both of Chesterfield, but I am not sure how. There is no Armstead named in the will of John of Henrico.
So back to my original question: are you aware of any documentation that proves that John Carter, who marries Mourning Bond, and Charles Carter are the sons of John of Henrico.
