In 1795, there are chnacery documents in Chesterfield County, Virginia, that show Armistead Carter as plaintiff and Ralph Hylton as defendant. These documents are not scanned and up on the web site, so I have ordered them from the Library of Virginia and should have them in about 2 months (with the holidays).

Charles Carter lived in Chesterfield Co., VA and had a son named Armstead (Armistead), born November 7, 1793. Relatively certain that 2 year old Armstead is not the plaintiff in this legal case. And since Charles died in Kentucky in 1840, it is probably not a legal guardian for his son either.

Therefore....
who is this Armistead Carter, who is of adult age, living in Chesterfield County in 1795?
(A William Carter is also mentioned in a chancery document from 1793; relationship, if any, unknown.)
