In the 1803 document, where he buys 1/2 an acre from James Vaughan in Clementown, Amelia County, Virginia, he is listed as being of Amelia County. When he sells the same 1/2 an acre in 1813, he is listed as being of Cumberland County.

I have found in these great chancery documents which you pointed me towards, that he claims in 1809 to have been a grocer in Paulin Anderson's Old Tavern and in Ligon Town, both in Amelia.

The land that he eventually buys to start his farm is near Paineville on Stock's Creek in Amelia.
