Actually there is a William A. Carter living in Amelia in 1860 with his wife, Mary F. Carter, and daughter Mary P.H. Carter. He is 58 years old, so he could be the one listed as teste on the Baughn/Carter marriage. I do not know a relationship between this William A. and my William R., but I do see William A. listed in the papers of my ancestor as someone he lent $12 1/2 to.
