You said it Holly .......DFT has a new Clan - William Carter of New Jersey R1b Group 1.No possible connection/migration between Middlesex County VA and Burlington County NJ:
Rachel must have answered the 1850 census, and slipped on William's place of birth
1850 US Census OH Preble Euphenia HH 492 - all children born OH
William Carter 52 ** Penn ** Rachel 47 Penn Henry 20 William 19 John 17 Susan 12 Sarah 10 Jane 8 Ephraim 6 Edline 3
1870 US Census OH Logan Belefontane Ward 4 HH 117
William Carter 73 NJ Rachel 67 Penn Emaline 24..... yeah, that matches, except for NJ
1880 US Census OH Drake Richland (not York) - Mary born 1826, m. before 1850
George W. Oliver 54 Mary S. 54 ....... Oliver children ..... William Carter 84 Widower
and .... both mother and father born in NJ - per Mike McIntosh below
1880 US Census IA Madison Penn HH 35
Ephraim Carter 35 **OH NJ PA ** Abagail 34 Ada May 11 James H. 9 George L. 7 (not 2)
It took all of two minutes on RootsWeb - no, not the most reliable source of data, but .....

Name: Joseph Carter
Birth: 07 JUL 1729Death: 07 JUL 1798 in Warren Co., Ohio, USA
Marriage 1 Mary Gaskill b: 03 JUN 1739 in Burlington Co., NJ m. 02 JAN 1757 New Jersey
1. James Carter b: 1761 in Burlington Co., New Jersey, USA
Special Notesd:
A. Burlington Co NJ is immediately above Glouchester and sits South East of Philadelphia
B. Haplo I1 - Group 1 Jacob Carter of the West Jersey Colony a/k/a Carters of New Jersey:
1. After merging the several lines - no James, no Joseph
2. They were from Glouchester County NJ - across the river from Philadelphia - due South
3. They mostly removed to TN and GA
Inescapable Conclusion: we now have two Clans of Carter from New Jersey. Thanks A Lot!
The second of which has solid DNA to William of Middlesex County VA.
How do William 1660 VA and James 1729 NJ relate?
As Holly said ..... somewhere back across The Pond.
No way was there migration from earliest VA back to now well-settled NJ.
We need to create a new Clan - William of New Jersey!Showing the same Haplo R1b - 01.
Can't make too much of two William Carters - a generation or two apart.
Note how Kit 44719, the line above Kit 33393, shows Nathaniel Carter d. 1757 Burlington Co NJ
Good work, Mike!
