Joel Walker Jones Carter, b. 1793/4, VA
Posted by: John Jones (ID *****0053) Date: November 30, 2012 at 16:14:47

I am a Jones/Walker researcher interested in how J.W.J. Carter came by his name. Internet data suggest that he was born in Buckingham Co., VA. Is there strong evidence of this?
There were a plethora of Joel Walker Joneses in my family. The first of that name died ca. 1792 in Buckingham Co. Possibly, J.W.J. Carter was his namesake. Why? I have no record of Carter-Jones inter-marriage, but there may have been other reasons. Joel Walker Jones died relatively young and may have garnered sympathy from the local residents? Also, Joneses and allied families (esp. Winston) moved from Buckingham to what eventually became Colbert Co., AL, where J.W.J. Carter is buried.

Any info helpful. Thanks in advance.
