Not exactly a myth, but ................
yes, we need to throw away the Bloody Books.
With many thanks to Ruth Sehen, our distant Carter Cousin across The Pond.
We must reserve the harshest criticism to date for Dr. Miller's short-sightedness, for Ancell Carter,
Grocer of London, did not have six sons, did not have a son named Thomas:
Harleian Society Visitation Returns (published 1880):
The Carter [of Kempston]Pg. 90 bottom of page:
There are connecting lines in the original images - which are neigh impossible to represent online;
the simple point is that both Visitations place Thomas of Kimpson and Anscell of London NEXT to one
another, representing brotherhood.Their children are then placed underneath and any numbering
is the sequence of birth and NOT the total number of children. Both Visitations clearly show
"1. George 2. John 3. Ancell 4. William" and daughter Jane!
And ..... the parish registers of St Dunstan in the West: support this record of Ansell's children.
George was baptised in 1619, John in 1622, Ansell and Jane in 1629 and William in 1632.
Therefore ..... "Ancell 6 sonn" and "Thomas 1 sonn" in the London Visitation denotes Thomas was the
first son of William of Kempston [Kimpson] and Mary Ancille, while Ancell was the sixth son.A very best
approximation of the original text (not a transcription):
Pg. 142 THE VISITATION OF LONDON - Faringdon Without
........ William Carter of Kempston = Mary da. of Thomas Ansille
........ in com. Bedford
........ (tree structure) ..............................
Ansyle Carter of London = Jane da. of ............ Thomas Carter of Kempston
grocer 6 sonn living an. ....John Mylles ............. in com. Barford 1 sonne
1634
........ (tree structure) ..............................
1. George Carter ... 2. John Carter ...4. William Carter ... 1. Jane Carter
eldest sonne &
heire ........................3. Ansyle Carter
Note how even Jane has the number 1. in this case.
I mean, it dosn't get any clearer than this!?!
There will be other postings to VIRTUALLY prove the true parents of Capt. Thomas Carter of Lancaster.
