So the remaining questions are:
1. Who was the third witness to the will of Thomas Carter Jr.?
2. Who may, or may not, have been the father of Peter of Fairfax (but who was NOT a previously unknown son of Edward). There are no "other children" of Edward - we have the Prayer Book.Period.
3. Who was the Job who married Sarah - obviously a direct descendant of the Barford -
Jailer, Tavern Keeper and keeper of the Barford Estate to become VerVille?
The only Job this early was the son of Peter out in Fauquier and then down to Amherst - and
we understand Mr. Van Stilley's frustration - but the son of Peter did NOT return to Lancaster. *!!*
On the other hand, there is the unknown Job Carter of Fairfax County, son of another Peter.*!*

Ex.: Brothr-in-law, Job Carter. Wits: Edwin Conway, John Miller. W.B. 20, p. 115.
Carter, Job m 11 Jan 1768 Sarah Rob, dau of Frances. Sur. Joseph Carter, Lancaster Co Mar Bond
POSSIBLYof Joseph Carter Jr. (m. Mason) BUT his will just three years later in 1771 does not mention a son Job - yet the dating is so right. For a son's marriage in 1768 - birth ca. 1745, there is no other known Joseph Carter available - born before 1720.By analogy, not even an uncle Joseph is indicated - therefore, for whatever strange reason, this Job has to be a previously unknown son of Josepeh Jr.?!?
*!*There are TWO mysterious Job Carters - a generation or two apart. The witness to the will of Thomas Jr. of Barford MIGHT be his youngest brother Joseph, where B is a misreading of the old fashioned S.That witness, however, could not be the subsequent "Jailer" of Lancaster County. some fifty years later:
COMMITTED to the gaol of Lancaster County, on the 9th of August, 1783,
a negro man, named ANTHONY, the property of Edward Fielding, of Fauquier
County. He is about thirty years of age, five feet ten inches high, and of a
yellow complexion; had on, when taken up, a blue coat turned up with red, a
pair of black breeches, and a felt hat. His owner is desired to pay charges and
take him away. JOB CARTER, Gaoler. [sic]

1. A large tavern, called the Upper Tavern, stood approximately where the
present courthouse is today. The exact location of the 18th-century courthouse
is not known; however, a survey drawn in 1809 indicates that it stood just to the
east of the old clerk's office on the south side of Route 3. What is now called
Job Carter's Tavern was then a store, shown on the 1809 plat as operated by
Mrs. Adair. The jail located on the eastern side of the courthouse green has one
section dating from the mid-18th century and a second section built ca. 1819 to
replace a burned part of the early structure.
2. On Verville - now proven as the Historic site of "Barford" of Capt. Thomas Carter,
Sr.: Lancaster County Deed / Will Book 23, pp. 494-5, 21 February 1803. Job Carter,
who had been paying taxes on the Gordon property since 1797, was one of four men
named as acting for John Gordon of Frederick County.
1783 Tax List Lancaster County: Charles Carter Esquire, Edward Carter, George Carter,
Henry Carter, Henry Carter, Job Carter, John H. Carter, Thomas Carter, William Carter.
Note: Job Carter is right next door to John Doggett, where Betty Doggett m. Josiah
Carter, of Henry Skip and Anne Harris.
And finally, can we put the nonsense from Van Stilley to bed once and for all?*!!*
He married Nancy Ann CARTER, daughter of Job CARTER [son of Peter], on 11 November 1778 in Amhearst County, VA, USA.
Job's will was proved 2 December 1782 at Amherst County, Virginia.Job, Edward, Henry, Solomon and Peter, Jr. lived in the part of Albemarle * County, Virginia, that became Buckingham and Amherst Counties.
And no ... Job Jr. of Amherst did not return all the way back to Lancaster!
