Hi Terri - this is a round robin of the Thomas and Alexander Carters.Just contacted James Carter of TN (also from your Thomas and Nancy Newton Carter) about this:
"Three of Alexander Carters' sons came to Carroll County,Tennessee in the 1830's and settled in the Terry Community near McLemoresville, Tennessee. They were John, Reuben, and Thomas. I descend from Thomas who married Nancy Newton".
As a minimum are at least three Alexander Carters of early Colonial Virginia -
1. Deceased of Chester County SC in 1834, born before 1750, origins remain unknown
2. Son of Joseph and Lettice Lynton Carter born 1758 Lancaster County (Barford)
3. Son of Thomas and Mary Kilpatrick Carter born ca. 1760 Goochland (Giles of Henrico)
Grant you, the Kilpatrick name is suggestive, but another set of ourstanding work from Holly Carter Dumlop shows that your Alexander was born before 1750 - and therefore could not be the son of Thomas Carter the THIRD of Goochland and Mary Kilpatrick. They only married in 1751 as proven by the Douglas Register begun in 1750 AND there is no record of the birth of their Alexander! (Even though Jesse and Abraham are shown in 1756 and 1758).
