I believe that my Alexander Carter is the son of Thomas Carter and Mary Kilpatrick. Alexander Carter b. Va bef. 1755, d. abt 1824 Chester Co., SC. I have seen information online, that I want to verify with documents, that his parents may be the Thomas Carter of Goochland, VA and wife Mary Kilpatrick. As you can see below, the Kilpatrick and also the Kidd name appear in this family line. We only know Alexander Carter's wife as "Anna", (from his will) and many believe her maiden name to be Minskipe. By 1789 they were living on Fishing Creek in Chester District, SC. This area could also be included in Craven Co., SC, or even in the old Tryon Co., NC One of his sons puts place of birth in NC, so this could be from Tryon Co., NC, or, as an Aunt Fannie Carter, who wrote the family history in the early 1900's, she states that the family was from the Mecklenburg, Lunenburg Co., area of Va, right on the NC line. Aunt Fannie (Rhoda Frances Carter was b. 03 Apr 1839, one of the first children when they came to TN. Her grandparents were the below Thomas Carter and Nancy Newton. Alexander and Anna Carter her grandparents. She never married, and d. 20 Apr 1930 in Carroll Co., TN.) They were predominately Methodist and according to "Aunt Fannie" their politics were Whig during the Revolution. I have no documentation on the politics, but LOTS on the Methodists. You may know this line. Alexander & Anna Carter had 5 daughters and 3 sons. My line is through son Thomas Carter b. 15 Mar 1766 VA, d. 15 Oct 1842 Carroll Co., TN and his wife Nancy Newton b. Bet. 1756 - 1774 PA. d. Bef. 1825. Alexander and Anna Carter also had a son John Carter that married a Rebecca possibly Kilpatrick. John died bet 1832-1850. His will was made in TN, but he died in MO. Rebecca returned to TN after his death. They had 5 children: Eliza J. Carter Jonathan David Davis Kilpatrick Carter William Kidd Carter b. 1803 SC Nicey G. Carter b. 1809 Tabitha C. Carter b. 1813 SC Alexander and Anna also had a son Jesse Carter that married a Mary Adams. We know very little about them. As you can see, these are just a few of the instances, where family names in Alexander & Anna Carter's children and Grandchildren have names that would correspond to being family of Thomas Carter and Mary Kilpatrick. Have any males from this line had DNA testing done? And if so, where is it posted so I could reference. Thanks! Teri Carter Ellis Notify Administrator about this message?
