This is simply a "for your information" note. John Eudaley b. Nov. 12, 1810 Pittsylvania Co., VA d. 1-9-1900 Cane Creek, Butler Co., MO. was a well educated man. He was a judge, a Methodist minister, assessor, and postmaster. In his journal he said he moved with his parents in 1813 from VA to Caswell Co., N.C. In 1822 he again moved with his parents to Jefferson Co., TN. He said he had a brother David Eudaley [*** below] and a brother-in-law, Payton Carter.

Hello,
"I need help placing my ggg grandfather William Presley Carter, 1810 VaVaVa. He married Jane Conway Gass (d/o Mary Collins Moyer and Rev Andrew Powell Gass) in 1830 and had 9 kids (John Quincy Adams, Andrew P, George Wm, Catharine N, Margaret E, Samuel Thomas, Sarah, Joseph R & Jame Malone) all in Dandridge, Jefferson, Tennessee. His family starts migrating to Bonham, Fannin, Texas about 1855. He is in Strawberry Plains, Knox, Tn in 1860 and makes it to Bonham Texas in 1870. He dies in Whitewright, Texas in 1895.
"While in Tennessee his neighbors are Pascal, Peyton & Oney Carter. A Presley Carter who died in 1840 is buried in Dandridge. Logically he should be related to them. Yet, none of his children or descendants are named Pascal, Peyton, Henrietta, Stewart, Thornton or Oney. The names that keep repeating in his family are Presley, George, William, Joseph, Samuel, Catherine and Anne. Also, while both Presley Carter and Pascal are supposed to have sons named William, his 1810 birth date is a problem". **Mary Jane
+ 1820 US Census NC Caswell, Image 11 (Again and Again, not in the Ancestry Index, but here they are) -
shown together, but the whole census is alphabetized. This is very suggestive … BUT … how do we know this is our Presley?(Need to go thru the complete Halifax census, eh?)This would seem to give weight to a daughter Jane born ca. 1809, but the second daughter ca. 1800 could not be Henrietta because of her marriage in 1810.Did Henrietta marry at the age of fourteen??? (Possible, but …).In any case, this gives weight to a younger son William!?!
Presley Carter1 Male 10-16, 1 Male over 45 (This would fit youngest son Wm. at 1810 and NOT 1800?)
1 Female 10-16, 1 Female 16-26 and 1 Female over 45
Peyton Carter1 Male 16-26 and 1 Female 16-26 (This would sure fit a son born ca. 1795 …
as well as the cited 1819 marriage in Caswell)
In an attempt to "verify" this NC census, there is no Presley found in the 1820 Halifax or Pittsylvania census - in the index anyway. However, Pascal is found in Pittsylvania, within households of Walters and Stamps, proven neighbors and members of the company of militia of our Capt. George Carter.By analogy to the sightings for Presley, there is no Pascal of any spelling in the 1840 Pittsylvania census - in the index anyway:
Email from Mary Ann of 2 Jan 2009:
The mother of Jane Gass is Mary Polly Collins. Her father and grandfather were named John. There is a John Collins that shows up in one of these Carter's deed's.Mary Polly Collins is buried close to the gravestone for the Presley Carter that died in 1840 in Dandridge.Peyton Carter first married Elizabeth Eudaley, she died and he married her sister Lucinda in 1835. A Mrs Elizabeth Carter died in 1835 and is buried in the same cemetery. I think that she is Peyton's first wife.
These details from the RootsWeb of Grant Pinnix make the case for Mary Ann:

By the way …… Caswell sits right underneath Halifax, they share the VA - NC border.
Isn't this begging the issue?
Note: Moses Hendrick was a witness to the purchase of the 400 acres by Richard and Mary Ann Carter, immigrants to Halifax County from Stafford; the property is proven on the Halifax/Pittsylvania county line of today.Richard was a Gunsmith and his estate included blacksmith tools.

(Unless the census is once again upside down, the male can not be a son of Peyton and Elizabeth -
do we allow for census error and say there was a son and a daughter borh in the early twenties?)

The 1860 census is suggestive, Paton/Peyton could well be the older brother five
households away;the accurate date of birth taken together with the combination
of Payton and Pascal can not be dismissed lightly. [Now proven beyond doubt
with the Eudaley family data].
