Maine Carter
My Carter's are a brick wall. Of all the possibilities I have explored there are but two remaining:
Are my Carters related to the black Carter family of Yarmouth, ME?
and
Are my Carter's from another state or country?
I know this:
Benjamin J Carter was born 1824.
He married Amanda Jane Clark around 1850.
Amanda lived with her family in Glenburn, ME and married Benjamin when she was 19. It is therefore likely she met Benjamin while living in Glenburn (In 1818 the mail route from Bangor came through Glenburn, Levant, West Corinth, Garland, Dexter, Ripley, Harmony, Athens and Cornville to Skowhegan. Then from Skowhegan through Canaan, Hartland, Palmer, Etna, Carmel and Hamden to Bangor).
Their only son was named Alphonso (born 1852) and only daughter was named Elizabeth Charlotte.
Benjamin died in 1856 and is buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hermon, ME.
Can anyone shed any light on Benjamin's origins????????
