Thank You for taking the time - you have provided some proof for good guesses from the past:

Williamson Carter married Anna Sullivan

I agree with you. It IS highly coincidental that Williamson Carter named two of his sons "Johnson" and "Fletcher." I do know that Anna Sullivan's grandfather was Fletcher Sullivan and one of her sisters married a man whose last name was Fletcher, so the name could have come from her side of the family.

Williamson and Anna moved from Warren Co., TN to Johnson Co., MO, where four of their six children were born. Anna died in 1846 and Williamson died in 1847, leaving the six children ranging in ages from 2 1/2 to 16 years old. It is speculated that some family member traveled from TN to MO to get the children and take them back to TN, where they lived with their maternal grandparents, Clemma Sullivan and Elizabeth Stembridge. All five Carter boys fought for the Confederacy in Tennessee.

I feel sure that this Carter mystery will be solved. Just have to keep digging. Thanks for your input.
