Are any of the Smyth county Va. CARTER'S from about the 1840's related to the Wtyhe county CARTER'S ?
I found a John 14, Matilda 12, and William 8, children of Widdow, Liddy Carter, 1831, Wythe county, VA. I wonder who her husband was. Liddy named her boys possibly after the father which could have been named John or William ?
The child Matilda 12, may be my Matilda Jane Carter born 1818, Va., married John Brown, 1841, Smyth county VA.
Later, in 1870, Matilda Jane Carter Brown and husband John Brown were found in Caldwell county , Mo.Matilda passed away in Caldwell county,Mo., June 1, 1890, at the age of 72 yr., 7 mo., and 18 days. There is also a Elizabeth Jane Carter born about Sept.20, 1822,in Wythe county parents, George L. and Elizabeth Calfee Carter.Elizabeth Jane Carter married a George Allison, 1843, Wythe, VA.Elizabeth was shown to be burried also in Caldwell county Missouri, Jane.30,1904.(found off ancestry).
There was also a Calvin Carter, supposably one of the children of George Carter, wythe co., and my Matilda Jane Carter Brown named one of her sons Joseph CALVIN, and another THOMAS Jefferson, and Andrew JACKSON. Her daughters were named, Lorinda, and FRANCES Columbia.
Matilda's possible mother , Liddy Carter, may have married one of the Carters in Wythe county, or nearby, around 1816. It seems there must be some connection to this George L. Carter, and my Matilda Jane Carter Brown. Why would she name her children after this line, CALVIN, THOMAS, JACKSON, AND FRANCES, and why is there a Elizabeth Jane Carter, from the George Carter line who is burried in the same cemetary as Matilda?
Any input appreciated!
