Why do ALL the Jesse Carters have to be married to women named ELIZABETH? LOL
I am looking for a Jesse Carter and wife ELizabeth who are listed in the Wayne co, TN census, both being born about 1805 in NC. They have the following children:
1850 Wayne co, TN census

32142147 CarterMartha E.11FTNX

Then Jesse and ELizabeth are found in the 1860 Henderson co, TN census :

Margaret Christenberry, daughter of Dr. James George Washington Christenberry and Sarah Elizabeth Hubble, of Henderson County, TN. She married Samuel L. Poag on Sep 28, 1878 in Lawrence County, TN. They lived in Lawrence County and raised 9 children.
I have no idea where Jesse and ELizabeth are before they turn up in Wayne co, TN in the 1860 census.
There are several wills and land grants of a Jesse Carter in Caswell co, NC. There is also a Thomas and ELijah Graves which seems toturn up in several deeds and wills. Also the names Harman Hurt (Hart).
Jesse Madison Carter, who is listed int he 1860 census with wife Sarah ELivira Christenberry, dies in the civil war on 13 April 1864 in Mobile, AL while heading to Andersonville prison. Another Carter, whom I beleive to be a brother, Graves Carter, dies on 14 April 1864, just one day after Jesse Madison Carter.
If anyone has come across any of these names or connections to these Carters from Wayne and Henderson co, please let me know. I seem to have THREE totally unrelated CARTER lines in my tree and I am sure they connect. Just don't know how.
Some of the repeating surnames in the Carter line are: Christenberry, Suiter.
