George T Carter, Maine to Wisconsin
Looking for info on this family, which I first find in the 1860 census of Oshkosh, WI.
George T Carter, 51, confectioner, Maine
Lucy A, 34, Maine
Joseph, 14, Mass.
Hattie L, 10, NY
Frederic W, 8, NY
Ada G, 2, WI
In the 1870 census Frederic and Ada are still living with the parents, along with a younger sister Nellie, age 7.
I find George in the Oshkosh City directories up to 1876. By 1880, Lucy is married to Wm J Merriman. By 1900 she is widowed again. She died in 1910. Her maiden name may have been Tucker.
In the 1876 directory, Joseph O Carter, ship corker is listed as boarding at George T's home. In the 1880 census is Joseph Carter, age 34, ship caulker, born St John's NB. The age is right to be George's son, but the birthplace doesn't match with the 1860 census and I can't find him at all in 1870.
Hattie married Eugene Potter and I can follow her family through the 1910 census.
Frederic is listed in the 1872 city directory. I don't know what happened to him after that.
Ada married P J Dullanty and died in 1883. I have been able to follow her children.
Helen never married, but ran a millinery business in Oshkosh until her death in 1916.
I am most interested to find George and Lucy's families in Maine, and to know what happened to Joseph and Frederic.
