Nelson Co Va Carters
I have found a Nelson County Carter connection to my Stinnett
line. I am wondering if my Joseph Carter belongs to that line.
Thanks to John Douglas who posted info on Shadrack Carter, I may have a clue to my Joseph.
A Gertrude Carter b 1877 married Richard Dewey Stinnett III. about 1900. Her mother Delia and brother Joshua were living with them in the 1930 census. I traced them back to Nelson Co Va. They descend from the Sharack Carter line.
There was only one Jospeh and he is the wrong one. I am wondering if my Joseph was born out of wedlock? He married
Belsora Elizabeth Lavender in 1833 in Amherst Co Va. Since Nancy Ann Carter married Winston Lavender there may be a connection.
Joseph and Belsora's daughter was Mary Jane Carter c 1838 in Amherst. She married Richard Dewey Stinnett Jr, born 1830
Jospeh was in Rockbridge in 1840. He was in Botetourt in 1850 and 1860. He died before the 1870 census.
The Richard Stinnett who married Gertrude Carter was the son of Richard Dewey Stinnett Jr and Mary Jane Carter. There is American Indian in this line. Richard and Mary Jane Carter Stinnett had a daughter Emma Elizabeth Stinnett who married her second cousin Henry Jackson Stinnett. Emma was Indian so I figure it had to come from the Carter's.
The Lavender's, Carter's, Staples, Penn, Blair's, Stratton's and Allen's were all from Amherst. I have been trying to locate the parents of Sarah Penn born 1730 who married Samuel Staples. Sarah may also have been Indian. Can anyone help with these lines???
I have very little info on the names above. A lot of them moved out of state.
Thanks for any help at all.
