james carter's b. 1815-1923, + 1791-1771
I am looking for
1) James Carter Sr. listed in the 1825 census ofLower Canada, i.e. Quebec,His age at that time is between 40-60 Yrs. As the married female is listed as over 14 and under 45 (no name unfortunatley) I deduct that he was in his 40's.There is a son listed as between 14-18.This family is listed in the St. Armand, Bedford Co. area.
2) James Carter married Orpha Corey in Stanbridge, MississquoiCo., Quebec .They are listed in the 1851 Census of Stanbridge where it states he was born 1821<> in the U.S.They had a number of children. The youngest (I think) ,Hamlet Marcellus Carter married Eliza Urana Wightman.I have more if this line helps anyone our there.
I am trying to find where these two James Carter's came from in the U.S. and another researcher has suggested I try Mass.
I had a great uncle Lindon Carter who moved to Mass. when he was a preacher (Adventist, I was told). That would have been in the mid 1900's.
The only other tidbit I have is that Marcellus Carter (above) went down toMilford, New Hamshire to marry on the 14 July, 1880.It seems likely that the original family came from that "neck of the woods".
Thanks for any help
Gail
