Gene, I am looking for info on my Carstensen's. I have the following from translations of church documents brought from Denmark in 1854.
Carsten Carstensen: B.Dec 23,1818 Baptized Feb 3, 1819 Confirmed April 12, 1835. Letter"regarding his marital connections received the following offical confirmation from here... I know of nothing that could stand in the way of his intentions legally." Carsten's parents were: Jens Carstensen & Margaretha nee Hansen. She was still alive in 1847. His father was dead. This info came from the Vicarage at Stedesand, April 23, 1847. Also have a certification of smallpox vaccination from Tondern, Sept 21, 1825 and his passport issued in Holstein 1854. He had a son John August who was born March 22, 1850. Carsten died at sea on his way to New Oleans and Iowa in 1854.

Carsten married Helena Hansen probably in 1847. She was b Sept 23, 1815& Baptized Oct 1, 1815, Confirmed Feb 27, 1831, she was described as" marital obligation presents no obstacle".Her Parents were " erswhile Jens Hansen of the castle & Anke nee Bartlefs. All this info is from the Vicarage at Clanxbuell, April 1, 1847. Helena re-married Johann Johannsen in Dewitt, Clinton County, Iowa,Nov 1, 1856.

Helena, Johann, 7 John August were in New Hartford,MN on the 1860 Fed. Census. They indentified themselves as from Denmark, this area is now in schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

Looking for John Aug. baptism & his parents marriage info and any leads to his aunts, uncles, ancestors ( Carstensen or Hansen)in Denmark/IA.Thanks for reading this long message. I tried to include everthing I know, hoping to connect with any relatives out there. I will share info on descendents and gratefully accept any leads or advice.
