HISTORY NOTES: "Kit" Edgar Olander CARSON

Thursday
19 May 1966:
Merkel - E.O.(Kit) Carson, 81, longtime merchant here, died Wednesday,
May 18 at Starr Nursing Home in Merkel.
Funeral will be held Friday in Merkel Methodist Church. Officiating
will be the Rev. Newlon Daniel, the Rev.Bill Tanner and the Rev.
Dallas Dennison.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Carson was born January 5, 1885 in Whitesboro and moved to
Midland with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John N. Carson, in 1907, where
they were in the general merchantile business. They moved to Shaffer
Lake in 1908, and to Eunice, N.M., in 1909, where they homesteaded.
E.O. Carson married Sallie Jarrell on February 14, 1913 in Whitesboro,
and they returned to Eunice there they continued to make their home
until 1924. Mr. and Mrs. Carson moved to Merkel in 1924 where he was
in the grocery business until his retirement in 1955.
Mr. Carson was a member of the Merkel Methodist Church, a member of
the Masonic Lodge here.
Surviving are his wife; four sons, Louis of Seattle. Wash., Howard,
Herman and J.C. of Merkel; a brother, Pearl, of Midland; two sisters,
Mrs. Orion Gladwyn of San Antonio and Mrs. Cecil Heatly of San
Antonio; and 13 grandchildren.
A daughter, Catherine Carson, and a son, Dave, are deceased.
