First of all I should start by informing you that my post incorrectly assumed that Kit's sons Christopher and Charles Christopher were the same person. I had made the error because I could never find both on the same census but later realized Christopher was listed as Kit. Not as smart as I thought! Charles Carson (b. 12 Aug 1861 Taos NM)was married to Mary Alice Gallagher in Otero Co., CO in 1912 when Charles was 50 and Alice was 28. Prior to that Charles was unmarried. Their children were Jesse Charles b 1914; Ophelia b 1914? (died same year); Alice Estelle (md Harrington) b 1916/17; William Lindsey b 1919; and Anna Josephine (md Lange) b 1922. The family lived mostly in the Higbee CO area (South of La Junta) which is also known as "Picketwire" and "Nine-Mile Bottom". Charles died in 1938 and Alice in 1979 at he age of 95. Brother Christopher was born 12 Jun 1858 in Taos NM and married Guadalupe (Lupe) Richards in 1890. They had children: Josephine (md Beach) b 1891; Amanda Mary (Ann) (md Crane) b 1894; Charles Christopher b 1896, Allen Entero b 1898; Julia Hilda (md Waddell) b 1901, Anita May b 1903; Nettie Guadalupe b 1905; Christopher Charles b 1911; & Margarite b 1915. Christopher & Lupe were divorced in 1910 but soon reconcilled and remarried. Christopher & Lupe lived in the Higbee - La Junta area Christopher died in 1929 and Lupe in 1957. After the death of Kit Carson & Josefa Jaramillo in 1868 The eldest son William was taken in by Gen. Wm T. Sherman and the other children by Thomas O. Boggs. Not long afterwards Christopher set out on his own and Teresina, Charles, Estelle and Rebecca were sent to NM to live with relatives of their mother. By 1880 William was married to Pasqualita Tobin (daughter of trapper Tom Tobin) and siblings Charles, Teresina, Rebecca and Estelle were living with him in Costilla County, CO. Siblings Charles, Christopher, and Estelle (md. Spears (Tom) Wood) all moved back to the Higbee/La Junta area. William died in 1889; Teresina md. Fulton DeWitt & lived in NM, Rebecca comitted suicide in NM; and the youngest Josefita apparently married a Wm. Squires. There was also an older son of Kit & Josefa who was baptised Carlos Adolfo but was known as Charles B. (Bent?). He died before the age of 1. I have tons on the family so let me know if I can provide any further help. Doug whit103@aol.com Notify Administrator about this message?
