Hi John

Looking at the rootsweb site its possible the middle name is Beard. A Northern Ireland pronounciation for the surname Baird. It would be best to contact the author of the mail.

The normal Scots naming pattern:-
Eldest son after the paternal grandfather
Second son after the maternal grandfather
Third son after the father.
Eldest daughter after the maternal grandmother.
Second daughter after the paternal grandmother
Third daughter after the mother.
Fourth son after maternal gr.grandfather ....and so on.

It can be a valuable guide to finding previous generations but it must not always be taken as proof. There was always the possibility a married couple may have fallen out with one or more their parents.

Regards.

Jim
