Hi again all,
You certainly are a wonderful bunch and I am hoping that I am not asking too many questions.
I have come across a George, Samuel and John that I thought were my lines but I am thinking not now that i have read through their wills
John Carruthers died in 1798, It states that the only next of kin is his brother Samuel. Samuel died in 1841. At the time of his death he had 3 sons, George the oldest, Walter and John, the youngest, He also had 3 daughters, Margaret, Janet and Elizabeth who married a Scott. I am assuming either David or John as both are mentioned in his will.
George received the bulk of the estate and he died in 1849 but only his brothers and sisters are mentioned in his will. If there were no children or spouse mentioned in the will does that mean that absolutely there were none? Everything that I have found so far as in births etc pointed to this George and Samuel as being in my lines. But if George had no descent then it isn't possible. Also this family is from Miln, Kirkhill and Laverhay in Dumfriies. If you are familiar with this line can you please contact me, I need to rule them out,
The line I am looking at is
Matthew Carruthers m. Ellen Hanna June 1899
matthew's parents:
William John Carruthers m. Catherine Holt Nov 1874,
William John's parnets:
George Carruthers m. Janet Lorimer approx 1830ish
George's parents:
Samuel Carruthers m. Margaret Orr July 1813,
Samuel's parents:
John Carruthers m. Isobel Kennan Nov 1775
John also had a brother named Samuel born 1778
These are all in Dumfries.
thanks
Linda
