Elizabeth Carroll wasn't John Carroll's wife nor the mother of these children. Her own husband had just died after these children became orphans. So her husband died right after their father. HE was appointed guardian but died before he could follow through on the court order. After HIS death, his wife was granted guardianship. (*ROOM = place?)If John Carroll was her husband,he would not have been called a guardian,as he was their father.
