Carroll family Ireland to England 1750 and later

My G-G-G-grandfather, Samuel Carroll, was born in England from Edward Carroll, who came from Ireland in the late 1700s, I think. I am looking for traces of Edward, to be able to trace the family backwards in Ireland. As far as my father knew, the family is of the Ely O'Carroll line and probably lived in the Wicklow region after their lands were confiscated.
Anyone who has links with Leap Castle would be of great interest; this was the family seat of this line and I have papers that show links too, but no hard genealogical evidence.
Is anyone around who can help?
Samuel's son, Samuel, emigrated to New Zealand in 1860-65. I can furnish details of the family there.
