Brian,

It is nice to know there is another researcher trying to get around this "brick wall". Perhaps a fresh perspective will help! I am in contact with another descendant of Nathaniel who lives in California. Also I have contacted a descendant of Robert, brother of Nathaniel. So far we all agree the two brother, John and James, left Tennessee after James married Polly Bond there in 1820. They are both on the tax list around Liberty. MO in 1822. On census records John lists his birthplace as North Carolina. So far we have not found the name of the father of John and James. Supposedly a brother, Albert, remained in Tennessee with "aged parents" - a family tradition from another researcher. There is no Albert on the records in Tennessee but there is an Alfred, son of Luke. Now we are wondering if Alfred is a cousin of John and James with Luke being a brother of John & James' father. But who was there father? Perhaps William since both men named sons William. I have a Revolutionary War pension from Roane County, TN of a William Carrol but it doesn't give any names

You can still access the web page set up by Chris Carrel several years ago. It hasn't been updated in ages but has quite a bit of good information. Also in the Carrel genforum you can find Nathaniel's obituary.

You can e-mail me directly and we can share more information.

Elaine
