Heather, I'm trying to either prove or disprove that Sarah Carroll, who was born in GA in 1839 and who married George Washington Denton in Paulding Co., GA, in 1855, was the daughter of John D. and Emeline Humphrey Carroll, with whom a Sarah (of the right age) is listed in the 1850 Hancock Co., GA, census. Here are some references to the family that I have found:
FamilySearch® International Genealogical Index™ v4.01 North America
(Could be that the middle name Dart is wrong.)
John Dart CARROLL
Birth: 20 Feb 1806
Father: Richmond CARROLL
Mother: Sarah DRIVER
Greene Co., GA, Marriage Records:
Carroll, John D. married Humphrey, Emeline on 12 Aug 1833 in Greene County, Georgia
1850 Hancock Co., GA, census
Dw. 254, F. 259 24 Sep 1850 107th Dist.
Carroll, John D. 45 Farmer $750 RE
Andrew J. 13
All born in Georgia. Greene and Hancock are adjoining counties.
There's an interesting repetition of female names. Assuming the above are the same people.
Sarah Driver Carroll had a son named John D. Carroll.
John D. and Emeline Humphrey Carroll named a daughter Sarah.
Sarah Carroll Denton named a daughter Emmeline.
That could be coincidence, of course.
Do you have any information about John D. Carroll's first wife? Could she have been Emeline Humphrey?
I have pictures of Sarah Carroll Denton which I could scan and send to you.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
