Ken,
I'm trying to locate information on my grandmother's family. Her name was Darcus Victoria Carroll, her mother was Lydia, father James. She was born in Claiborne Co, TN.
I think Lydia and James were too.
I have located Lydia in a census, her maiden name was Carrell or Carroll, parents Augustus and Margaret. They lived in Va. before going to Tn.
Lydia was at one time married to Boston Clapp, but must have divorced. In the 1880 census it lists "Lida Carrell", widow, 35 and children Darcus (6) and Samuel (9), along with her mother, Margaret, widowed. So James would have died between 1873 and 1880.
I'm trying to figure out which James Carroll is my grandmother's father. I have found several James in the area, but don't know which, if any, is correct. There is no record of marriage in the county.
I had wondered if he and Lydia were cousins, so your comment in your entry intrigued me. Do you have any leads?
Thanks for your help.
