The U.S. Federal Census for New York, NY, NY for 1880 shows 41-year old Henry T. Carroll and his 38-year old wife Anna M. living at 165 2nd Avenue. He is a "teacher in public school", born in New York, his wife born in Ireland. (E.D. 615, pg. 15, at Ancestry.com.)
The International Genealogical Index at FamilySearch.org has a record of James Carroll marrying Mary Stone in 1905. James' parents are listed as Henry Carroll and Annie Cleary. Henry's birthplace is listed as ,,New York.
I am trying to determine whether the Henry & Anna of the 1880 census are the parents of the James who married in 1905. (He was my grandfather.)
The 1870 U.S. Federal Census also lists a Henry Carroll, then age 32, as a teacher. He is living with his parents and not yet married. They are at 35 Mott St., not far from Five Points. (NY Ward 6 District 11 2nd Enum., pg. 29, also at Ancestry.com.)
I'd also like to know if the Henry's from the 2 censuses are in fact one and the same.
I seem to have run out of online databases to search. I suppose my next step should be to try to obtain James' birth certificate. Any suggestions or help most welcome.
