Joan:
Yes, I have Phillip Carroll in my tree. His daughter Clementine was 1/2 Choctaw Indian and married William H. Carithers. They were in the Montgomery Co. MS census 1880. William and Clementine were the parents of my G GM Roxie M. Carithers who married John J. Brown, Duck Hill, MS 1889. John and Roxie were the parents of my GF Andrew J. Brown.
Phillip was b. 1805 in Richmond, NC and his wife was a Slaughter and I have that tree as well.
What I have not determined is who was Choctaw? Phillip or his wife? I do not think this tribe came from NC but?
Your posting was long ago but I just recently started research on the Carithers and Carroll's.
Will be glad to exchange notes
N Brown
