I have a ring that was carved from a white penny during Civil War. He was guarding a Southern prisoners and a prisoner made it for him . year 1865. He sent it to his sister Henretta Carroll. she gave it to ??? on 10th birthday. the rest of letter is not able to be read. It looks like Nancy G. Strickel? If anyone recognizes this e-mail me at I will be happy to hand this to the family I found it in 1966 in a trash can in Oxnard, California from effects being discarded by a man who had died and his family threw it away. His first name was Charles.
