Hi Jim Gardner: I noted the question about Dempsey Carroll being called "James" which appeared some time ago in the Carroll Message Board. I am probably the one who introduced the James into the picture. Our family Bible, kept by my Aunt Blanche Haymond Fitch, noted that his wife, Rebekah Heath Smith and his daughter, Cynthia Carroll, who married my great great grandfather William Haymond Jr. spoke of him as "James" as noted in the family bible. Therefore when I started searching for him it was a big mystery....I finally figured out that James and Dempsey Carroll were the same either it was James Dempsey or Dempsey James. Susan Haymond Hutchinson....Nov. 3, 2003.(I now own the family Bible...)
