Hi Betty,
I have an ancestor with the surname Carroll who lived in Inverness around the middle of the 1800s.She was Elizabeth Carroll and lived with her husband William Caldbeck in Inverness for a number of years between 1850 and 1875.
I don't know too much more about her yet.She and her husband had lived in western New York for a while before arriving in Inverness, but some of my information suggests that they or their families may also have spent some time in the Inverness area prior to their time in New York.Details are very sketchy right now.
William and Elizabeth raised a large family. Some, including my g-grandmother Jennie Caldbeck moved to the Concord, NH area. Most settled in and around Lowell, MA.
One of William Caldbeck's brothers, James, also married a Carroll girl, Mary Jane, at St. Anthanese in Inverness around 1860.Perhaps also adding some information to the story, William's brothers Michael and Matthew and his sister Margaret settled in the St. Johnsbury, VT area.I don't know if this area is where your Carroll ancestor settled but, if so, there's the possibility of some very close family ties between the Caldbecks and the Carrolls.
