Regretfully, my CARROLL line is the "brick wall" encountered by family researchers. I'm not immune. Despite the fact that my maternal 2nd great-grandmother's parents are found on Schuyler County abstracts, I have been unable to follow them. There burial places and those of many of their children, with the exception of my 2nd great-grandmother, have not been found. However, by strange coincidence, just this past Thursday I received Civil War Records for four CARROLL men, Rebels all, who fought at Vicksburg. Being in the Confederacy the records are sparse, no pension information was available as is with the North. Missouri archives might yield more than these archival ones from Maryland. Capt. John CARROLL, age 34, enlisted 01 Sep 1862 in McDonald County, Missouri; and on 20 Sep 1862 was "elected" Captain. He had black eyes, black hair, and was 6 feet in height with a dark complexion and "Peculiarities: None". He was in Co. H, Mitchell's Reg't, 8th Mo Inf, as were the other CARROLL men. I don't know where McDonald County in Missouri is located. His name with the three other CARROLLs were found by a distant cousin. One being the name of my 3rd great-grandfather, Christopher Columbus CARROLL. It turned out this private was too young to be my ancestor, and I do not know that my C. C. "Peter" CARROLL had a son by the same name. The two other men were Pvt. Hugh CARROLL and Sr. 2nd Lt. Samuel Houston CARROLL. Christopher was from Washington County, Arkansas, Samuel was from McDonald County, Missouri, and no state of origin is noted for Hugh CARROLL. I wish I could have been more help. I'll remember that your query is here, and I will be in touch in future if anything pops up. I hope you'll do the same. I've not run across any TRIMBLEs or ROGERSes, but you must note that your queried name "Hugh" and my CARROLL name of interest surely are repeated throughout records. If only this were an easier hobby. We push on! Notify Administrator about this message?
