Nice to hear from you so quickly.
My grandfather was Michael Carroll - born in Ennis, co Clare. My father was James Joseph but the James may have come from his mother's side. Michael's father was Bernard born in Limerick in 1831. His father was Daniel - I only know that both of them were car drivers which meant that they drove the mail coach. Bernard met his wife in Corofin and stayed in Ennis. He drove the mail coach from limerick to Ennis. Despite searching, I cannot go back further. Daniel and Bernard as family names are quite unusual at the time though bear in mind the fame at that time of Daniel O'Connell. Daniel is a common name in the old Ely O'Carroll clan - they were the main Carroll chiefs so to speak...however who knows if we can make that connection! If you search the mormon site you will find Daniel Carrolls in Tipperary, kilkenny and Dublin...I recollect my father - now dead - saying that his Carrolls may originally have come from Croom, in Limerick, but that is a distant memory...There are plenty of Carrolls in the current generation...
In summary Daniel Carroll appears in Limerick c. 1830 - ie in the city and he was my great great grandfather.
I have also found a Daniel Carroll in Ennis in 1846 - don't know if he is a connection.
To pursue further you would need some idea of origin in Ireland.
I don't have a Thomas or John...they would have been common names at the time...
There is a Barnaby Carroll acting as a sponsor - perhaps an uncle at the time or Daniel's father...
let me know if you see any connections,
