Dear Deidre,

Daniel Carroll was my great, great-grandfather. I have absolutely no idea where he came from in Ireland, only that he emigrated to Philadelphia in the early 1850s. I've noticed, as you mentioned, that Daniel wasn't a very common name. If you go by the old Irish naming system, my Daniel's father may have been William. I think, going by U.S. Census records, he may have had brothers named John, Thomas, James. Are any of those names common among your ancestors? Could you please tell me a little more about your Carrolls? Perhaps there's a clue somewhere. I really appreciate you taking the time to contact me and hope to hear from you.

Gratefully,
Claire Matthews
