The Marriage entry in the book I have, says:

Carrell, Newton Edward to Donaldson, Mary Jane 12-4-1899 by M.M. Patty, MG

If your grandmother, Stella Carroll, was 13 in 1909, she would have been born in 1895-96, but it is possible that she was born before her parents were married or that her father was married to a different woman before he married Mary Jane Donaldson in Blount county, TN. Another possibility is that, even though Newton Edward might not be a common combination of names, it may have been used among cousins, for some reason.

I hope that helps. I am not related to this family, myself, but you may want to check out other records (1900 Census in Blount co., TN, for example) to see if there are any other clues that would help you know the truth of this matter.
