What I have read is that Hugh Carroll's father came from Ireland and that this branch of the Carrolls is closely related to CCofC--how I don't know. Hugh Carroll, born in VA, came to TN, was a wagon master and worked with relocating the Cherokees, John grew up in the Cherokee Nation, i.e. what is OK today. I have also seen from sources in AR genealogy/history that Susan Ward was first wife, mother of Hugh and Fincher. One source say Susan Ward was Cherokee another say she was a quadroon. The rest about Huldah you know. I had not seen/learned of Nannie Ward or Stephen Carroll until your message. Isn't this fun???
