Was gggrandfather named Matthias Carroll

I know that he was born in Ireland and his last name was CARROLL. His wife's name was Elizabeth CARROLL and they had three children; James, Bridget and John. John Carrol was my great grandfather. John was born in Staten Island, NY, but I don't know if James and Bridget were born there or in Ireland. I do know that Elizabeth and my nameless gggrandfather came to Staten Island from Ireland.

I have a copy of an 1850 census, but am unable to make out his first name. The person who sent the copy noted that they believed his name to be Matthias Carroll.

If this rings any chimes for anyone out there, please let me know.

I'm more than happy to share any information I have.

Thanks,
Rita Metcalf Crocker
