Hi! It sounds like your father's name was either Dutch or German originally---I'd probably bet on Dutch.
Am wondering if you have found any more information. My line goes back to a William Carroll b in 1745 in Aughrim, Ireland came to the US and married Joanna Wakefield about 1775. He too was supposedly a relative of CC of C--a nephew according to the Wakefield genealogy. That is a little hard to figure because CC of C was an only child so a nephew would have to be a great nephew--his father's nephew really but who knows. Would love to hear of any new info you might have come across.
