The 1830 census of Knox County, Kentucky listed only one family of Carroll.
It lists George Carrel (in those days the census takers used very poor spelling) with 1 male under 5, 2 males 5-10, 1 male 15-20, 1 male 30-40, and 1 male 40-50. Also listed 1 female 10-15, 1 female 15-20, and 1 female 30-40.
The one male under 5 would have been born 1825-1830. I bet that this is your brick wall.
