I too have Carroll ancestors in North
Carolina (Miles Carroll b. Lincoln Co, NC)
and find the possible connection with the
Maryland Carrolls intriguing. It seems that
Daniel Carroll served on some interesting
committees while in the US legislature, one
being a committee setup to make treaties with
several Indian tribes, including the Cherokee, and serving on the committee with
a legislator from North Carolina. Many of
the Carrolls knew several Indian dialects
very well, starting with John Carroll during
the revolution who made a trip with several
dignitaries to convince Indians in the NW
and in Canada to join with the colonies in their fight for Liberty...and including
Carrolls who settled in western Maryland and
conducted meetings with the Indian tribes on
the frontier. If you would like more info,
please contact me.
