There is mass confusion regarding the Carrolls in North Carolina - I am showing 24 William Carrolls (including the various spelling versions of Carrell, Carrol, Carrel, McCarroll) and it appears that many family historians have been lead astray. I am still trying to sort it out, but you mentioned a book published in 1893? What book is that? And what do you show for McCarrolls? I show a William McCarroll in the 1800 NC census living in Rockingham County, and a Thomas McCarroll listed in Chatham County. There were also three McCarrels listed - Izarel (Rockingham Co), John (Orange Co), and Margaret also in Rockingham Co. In 1810 there was only a George McCarrol listed in Rockingham County and the others had either moved away or changed their names to Carroll by dropping the "Mc"?
