Pat, I have a Joshua Carroll born 1864 in Nelson Co., VA, md 1. Nannie Vanderslice and 2. Emma Robertson. I have his parents listed as Joshua Carroll and Catherine Thomas. Could this Joshua Carroll who married Catherine Thomas possibly have been the same as your Joshua Carroll who married Mary Alice Tillman? these being two different wives? In other wise, could your Mary Alice Tillman have been a second wife of this Joshua? If your Joshua was born in 1847/1853 and he didn't marry Mary Alice Tillman until 1883, that would certainly have left plenty of room for a first family!
